NINE ALBUMS - Total of 156 Sterling Silver Medals with First Day Covers - Total Sterling Silver Weight is Approx. 125 Troy Ounces The Franklin Mint POSTMASTERS OF AMERICA, Medallic First Day Covers 39 mm Proof Medals - Each Sterling Silver Coin Weighing Approx. 0.8 Troy Ounces Starting in 1971, and continuing for several years, First Day Covers were issued which combined Postmaster of America sterling Silver medals (produced by Franklin Mint) with U.S. Commemorative postage stamps. The design of the solid sterling silver medals complements that of the stamps. Each cover bears the official First Day of Issue Cancellation and has been postmarked at the officially designated Post Office of First day of issue. The number of individual medallions varied each year, so the contents of the albums sets from one year to the other varied. The nine albums Included in this auction are : 1971 (One Set of 21 Coins); 1975 ( One Set of 23 Coins); 1976 (Two sets of 14, for a total of 28 Coins); 1977 (Two sets of 20, for a total of 40 Coins); 1978 (Two sets of 18 for a total of 36 Coins); and 1979 (One Set of 18 Coins). Each medal weighs around 25 Grams for a total of all items of approximately 125 troy ounces of sterling silver. All volumes, coins, holders, description, stamps, and covers are all in fine condition. Starting Price of $3400 for Auction is approximate Melt Value as of early Feb. 7 , 2011. For each Medallion there is an envelope, stamp, and description of the commemorative event. All Years in Separate Binders/Albums. All items in Very Good Condition. The Pictures or an some Album Contents are exemplary of the fine condition of all contents for all albums in this auction. 1971 - One Album - 11 COINS .The Commemorative First Covers are: 1) Bicentennial of the American Revolution, July 4, 1971; 2) A Decade os Space Achievement, Aug 2, 1971; 3) American Artist John Sloan, Aug 2, 1971; 4) Emily Dickinson American Poet, Aug 28,1971; 5) 450th Anniversary of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sept 12, 1971; 6) Prevent Drug Abuse, Oct 4,1971; 7) 25th Anniversary of CARE, Oct 27, 1971; 8) Historic Preservation - San Xavier del Bac Mission, Oct 29,1971; 9) Historic Preservation - San Francisco Cable Car, Oct 29,1971; 10) Historic Preservation - The Charles W. Morgan, Oct 29,1971; and 11) Historic Preservation - Decatur House, Oct 29,1971. The stamps, coins and COAs are encased in plastic sleeve pages and held in a soft cover blue binder, titled on the front.
