A nice model of the Saga Rose in resin by Hein Muck and expertly painted and finished by Les Hodder of Wirral Mini Ships, its catalogue is HM 427aW from 2008. It has one small fault easily rectified. It appears that a little gum has been spilt on the starboard side midships waterline (see photo 2) but there is no depression so could easily be painted over. Saga Rose was one of the last true classic liners, built in Seyne-sur-Mer in France as Sagafjord for Norwegian American Line, launched in 1964 and entered service in 1965. In 1980 a new Company was formed as Norwegian American Cruises and after refits and re-building a new upper deck in Hamburg her capacity was increased by 32 berths. In 1983 she was sold with her sister ship "Vistafjord" to Cunard. After a fire on her final World Cruise for Cunard as "Caronia" she was repaired in Singapore and sold to Transocean Tours and renamed "Gripsholm" where she had a grounding between Denmark and Sweden. She was taken to Bremerhaven for repair and eventually sold to Saga Shipping in 1996 and renamed Saga Rose. She served Saga for quite a few years including world cruises before falling foul of the new 2010 SOLAS regulations and was broken up in China. She will be posted securely in a proper ships box.
