From an estate in Tuxedo New York, this very large, 12" wide by 16" long "photomechanical (halftone)" reproduction, looks like a photograph, is " Sky ", a photograph of a cloud and the sun with no reference to the earth. This particular photo is from the Eastman House collection's " Stieglitz Memorial Portfolio", Lakeside Press Chicago 1947 . Our research indicates that t were 1500 of these portfolios made. The photograph was taken in 1931. We will be listing other Steiglitz photographs today and tomorrow. This stunning photograph is number 16. The image size is 3 5/8" wide by 4 9/16" high . It is printed on photographic paper. Under a jeweler's loupe we can see dots but they are not the standard lithographic dots and look more like a matrix. Steiglitz photographs in this collection are referred to as being photomechanical (half tone) reproductions. T are a very few subdued wrinkles, more like tiny ripples, in the print that can only be seen when the print is held sideways to catch the light and a more, barely, visible one in the upper right margin near the corner. T is an edge tear, 13/16" just above the 16, the finish of the paper is less glossy than the others, and t are two minuscule dots in the photo's finish that can be see under the loupe .
