This is a unique *dated* 13-key boxwood clarinet with ivory mounts, made by D'Almaine & Co. of London apparently during the period 1834-1838. The instrument is stamped "D'ALMAINE & CO." with the crown motif, on both joints as well as the barrel and bell. Also on the bell appears the wording "LATE GOULDING & D'ALMAINE - SOHO SQUARE - LONDON". The lower barrel ivory is engraved "David Gregory - Intake Band - 1838". I have no information regarding the identity of Mr. Gregory nor of the history of the "Intake Band"... This clarinet has round flat brass keys; all but four are block mounted - those four have saddle mountings which appear to be original to the instrument, although it is possible they are a later period addition. One key is missing, on the lower joint (see photos); its upper block mount is chipped out and lower (flap key) mount is cracked but intact. A second key on the lower joint is missing its tone hole cover although the touch-piece is present. Period blackwood mouthpiece has a chipped tip and a longitudinal crack that appears closed, may be restorable. The instrument is otherwise completely crack-free. Ivories appear to be original and in good condition. This clarinet has excellent restoration potential. Overall length is 26.0" (660mm). ***************RESERVE & BUY-IT-NOW REDUCED!************** U.S. buyer pays $12 insured Priority Mail shipping.
