Mediaval Bronze reliquary of a kneeling knight. A cast solid copper alloy reliquary of a kneeling knight. Dating to 13th-14th Century and of exceptional workmanship. Weighs 31.98 gms. 60 mms in length. Recorded with PAS, full report below. Provenance : Private Collection, acquired 2013. It is probably of 13th to 14th century date.The man is depicted leaning forwards, at a forty-five degree angle to the base. The head is turned forwards in three-quarter relief, and shows a man with bushy chin-length hair. He is wearing a high collar, with a short cope, cape or tippet around the shoulders. His hands are joined in prayer and held out in front of his body. His right leg is bent and his foot rests on the ground, whilst he kneels on the left knee. His long garment (tabard) reaches to the ground, and is split to the thigh, revealing the left leg, with his sword prominently displayed behind this, descending to rest on the left heel. The sword pommel is large and round, attached by a strap at the man's waist.The reverse is plain and slightly hollow. The figurine can be compared to SF-DC1271 and NMS-6 read more
