For Sale, from my collection - (Seeadditional listings for more pieces of Pickard China and American Hand Painted Porcelain fromKeramic Studio and other parts of this collection this week and in coming weeks.) An unusual and LARGE charger (14 inches in diameter),painted in 1915 by an American China Painter, signed CGB, Erie PA. This item is very rare, as we do not often see these items dated, but more unusual still is the fact that it marked with the painters location or Eria, PA. It also has the poem "My Ships" on the back by Ella Wheeler Wilcox which is painted in gold and reads:
"OH Skies be calm! Oh winds blow free- Blue All my ships safe home to me, But if though sendest some a-wreck, To never more come sailing back, Send any-all that skin the sea- But Bring my love ship home to me. Ella Wheeler Wilcox" This piece has great painting and form, with beautiful ships surrounding the plate and this motto on the back. Condition is great -- I would say excellent. Painted on a bavaria blank. China painting was the rage from 1880 - 1930 in American when millions of women pursued this art form as a way of supporting their families. Often their work was featured in Keramic studio and many clubs formed for this pursuit. A nice piece to add to any collection. *A note about shipping: We enter our porcelain items based on the weight of 4 lbs and a large box, (for double boxing) shipped via UPS. We use UPS because of insurance. We are not sure why the price is so high on ebay - around 18.00, but you can rest assured that if the price is less than this for your zip code, (those who are closer in location for a ground shipment from NY) we will modify the price based on the UPS rate. Ebay seems to come up with this number but we believe it is based on all zip codes in the US, so please take this into consideration when bidding.
