Wow, blacksmith collectors estate, this week a large selection of blacksmith tools will be offered. Please check all my auctions. Super early hard face anvil, weight of approximately 145 pounds. The measurements are overall length 20 1/4"; face 4 1/2 by 13 1/4; horn 7; height 10 1/8; hardy hole 3/4"; pritchel hole 3/8; base 9 1/2" by 11 1/2". This looks to be the twin just a little smaller of the anvil I have listed also this week. They came out of the same estate and I believe they are very similar in the time that they were made. The top on this one is not as good as the other. What a great opportunity to own a colonial style and vintage anvil. This would be excellent in your shop for general blacksmithing. It has an excellent ring and a fantastic rebound. Hitting the anvil with a light hammer it literally jumped out of my hand. I have wire brushed it clean looking for cracks and it seems solid and true. You can see w the feed were forge welded to the base, but it looks like the horn was one piece with the table. This is uncommon but that's the way it looks to me. Because of the table style and the fact that the pritchel hole looks to have been added later I date this anvil at approximately 1785 with help from the previous owner. Because of the weight pick up in Webster, New York, 14580 is no charge. This anvil when packaged weighs 149, very heavy but it will go UPS and that is what you will see listed. Do not miss out on this acceptional early blacksmith's anvil for your shop or civil war period demonstrations or reinactments.
