[30 August 1481] "As indicated by a blank space or by an engraving preceding the cantos, a complete series of illustrations must have originally been planned for this edition. Engravings are known only for the first nineteen cantos of the Inferno. Of these, only those for the first three cantos are found impressed on the pages of text (in some instances, the third being a repetition of the second).
