14K GOLD ENAMELED EGYPTIAN PHARAOH PENCIL c1870s Presented is a wonderful quality 14K gold pencil in the form of an Egyptian Pharaoh. The pencil is beautifully enameled on both sides and set with four little diamonds and, I believe, six demantoid garnets. The pencil was probably made in America, but it could be European. It was most likely made in the 1870s or 1880s. The pencil is hallmarked on the top loop. We have tested it with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14K gold. The condition is excellent. T is no lead in the pencil, but it appears to be in good working order. It opens and closes well. The enameling is in superb condition. T is only a tiny bit missing on the reverse on the last hieroglyphic. The stones are well set. T are no breaks and no repairs. The pencil measures 3 3/8 inches long when it is fully extended, and 1 3/4 inches long when it is closed. The weight is 8.2 grams.
