14k Gold, European / Likely French, Heavy, Approximately 30 Grams Total Weight. 19th C Victorian Era Rococo Motif Repousse Lorgnette.. (Unmarked But Tested and Guaranteed.) Exquisitely stamped in repousse' style on each side with entwinedacanthus leaves, scrolls, spades, and a Rococo shell motif at the top of the handle. Fancy script "L" monogrammed on one side, could be removed by skilled jeweler. Glass enamel is finely applied in white and soft blue around the lens covers; the blue dots chased around their borders. On the round tips there is white enamel inlay, on the shells it is light blue; all intact and showing very little wear. The shell motifs have thicker gold at their heads, somewhat obscuring the detail of the repousse, yet providing good strength at this pivot point. When side button is released, the lenses slid out and unfold smoothly. Glasses appear to be original, of uncertain magnification. Lorgnette has attached ring which allows you to wear it on a chain or ribbon as a pendant.
