I SO love a ring that tells a story. So it is, Christmas morning back in the day, in 1856. Bob washes up, dresses, and sets out to see his sweetie, Carol (of course they weren't living together. . .) to wish her a Merry Christmas and give her his very special gift. . .this GORGEOUS engagement ring--and ask her to be his wife! Can't you just picture it?? Wonder what she was wearing. . . Anyway, back to reality. The ring truly is beautiful. The center old mine cut diamond is 4.9mm round, really fiery and a nice clean stone--at least 1/2 carat in that stone--it's chunky and would probably weigh a little more if it were taken out of the mounting, but it was just measured with a gauge. It is graded by our estate jeweler as I color, SI-1 clarity. Definitely eye clean and I couldn't even find an inclusion with a loupe. A lovely old diamond. It is set in one of those old four-prong settings with 3-point prongs that look like little "claws" at the four corners of the diamond. On each side of the main diamond is a lovely tapered baguette--these are G, VS-1 stones--extremely white and clean! The baguettes bring the total carat weight up to at least 60 points. The inside of the band is engraved in that old antique script often seen in Victorian rings: Bob to Carol, 12-25-56. Also engraved is the 14K hallmark (not stamped like in newer rings) read more
