15 Ohio Civil War Covers & Letters, Patriotics NICE LOT Originate from Congress & Canaan Ohio & Pulaski Indiana Great OHIO Civil War postal history find here.... there are a total of 15 covers, six of which have letters. All originate from the Ohio towns of CONGRESS and CANAAN and the Indiana town of PULASKI (but clearly spelled PULESI in all three postmarks!) All these covers and letters were sent to Mr. Joseph Hague (spelled HAAG a couple times) - at Winters Station Post Office in Sandusky County, Ohio. All letters and cover date from the early 1860s. Three of the c overs are scarce, albeit damaged, Illustrated PATRIOTIC COVERS. One features a marvelous cachet of SUMPTER'S HERO, America's Havelock with a RAWSONVILLE, Ohio blue postmark. Another has a cachet of Colonel Ellsworth with a Congress, Ohio manuscript postmark. The third is a sumpter scene with lady liberty also postmarked Congress, Ohio. Letters are chatty, some political references mostly family chatter - very interesting to read and study. In all honestly, I just glanced through them. Several written by David Hague, the brother of Joseph. Also some by Susan Smith. Origination of the letters as follows - with scarcity ratings: Congress - Wayne County (1832-1907) R3 Canaan - Wayne County (1825-1903) R4 Pulaski (spelled Puleski in all three postmarks) Davis County, 1852 to present. We're selling as one lot, as received. This would make an interesting Ohio research project. Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere.
