Offered for auction is a set of Gorham Chantilly sterling silver flatware with chest. The set consists of 151 pieces of sterling silver (marked with the old lion-anchor-G 1895 marks as seen in the photo). None of the pieces are monogrammed. All are in fine estate condition. The set will seat either 8 (formal) or 16 (semi-formal) by "double-seating" with the dinner and luncheon sets to serve 16. An extremely versatile set. The entire set is VERY heavy (157 ounces of sterling on my postal scale, NOT including the knives)
The set is comprised of 128 place pieces, and 23 serving pieces (many rare and unusual).. The pieces break down as follows: 8 - 7 and 1/2 inch dinner forks 8 - 7 inch luncheon forks 8 - 6 and 1/2 inch salad forks 8 - 5 and 1/2 inch pastry forks 8 - 5 and 1/2 inch cocktail forks 8 - 7 inch oval soup spoons 16 - 5 and 3/4 inch teaspoons 8 - 7 and 1/2 inch iced tea spoons 8 - 6 and 1/4 inch cream soup spoons 8 - 5 inch boullion soup spoons 8 - 4 inch demitasse spoons 8 - 9 and 1/2 inch dinner knives 8 - 8 and 3/4 inch luncheon knives 16 - 5 and 3/4 inch butter spreaders (solid) 1 - 9 inch scalloped casserole server (3 inch wide bowl) 1 - 8 and 5/8 inch oval bowl casserole spoon (2 and 1/4 inch wide bowl) 1 - 8 and 5/8 inch pierced scalloped bowl server 4 - 8 and 3/8 inch regular serving spoons 1 - 9 and 1/2 inch carving knife (old carbon steel blade) 1 - 8 and 1/2 inch carving fork 1 - 8 and 3/4 Very Large Serving Fork 2 - 7 inch Cold Meat Forks 1 - 8 inch Beef Fork 1 - 5 and 1/8 inch sardine fork 1 - 7 inch master butter knife 1 - 6 and 1/8 inch jelly slice 1 - 6 inch sugar spoon 1 - 5 and 1/2 inch cream ladle 1 - 5 inch mayonaise ladle 1 - 4 and 5/8 inch bon bon server 1 - 4 and 1/4 inch lemon fork 2 - 3 and 5/8 inch scalloped master salts A very nice set in the most popular silver pattern ever made. The set could probably use a good cleaning, but that's about it. The entire lot is offered for the ridiculous starting bid of 99 cents, and without a reserve. Good luck, and thanks for looking.
