Description and Condition This authentic Thailand Ayutthaya period, 15th-16th century bronze Buddha head has a very deep patina, original clay inside the head and a wonderful look of its 500+ years of age. Both ears all the way down are intact and the face is lovely and placid. The archeologist used an adhesive to restore a small portion of the top knot that was found with the head but it is all t and does not take away from the appearance. This was probably around 1920, he also had a custom mount made to fit the contours of the base. The archeologist is gone now but I am trying to track down his sister who sold the collection about 15 years ago. The Buddha's height is 9 inches by 4 inches wide and is heavy at about 3 pounds. The eyes are just slightly open to the clay and I heard that they used to put a shiny stone or pottery behind the eyes for effect.? I am not a dealer but a collector of old things and would love to hear more about the Buddha head from anyone who knows. References and Research My research has only found one example of this type in the Musée Guimet (Museum in Paris ) that presents a thoughtful selection of the treasures housed in what French President Jacques Chirac calls "one of the most prestigious museums of Asian art in the world." That example is featured in the book Spiritual Journey: Sacred Art from the Musée Guimet and a picture is online at /gallerye.html (15th image to the right). I also got the Museums confirmation of Ayutthaya period, classical style. Authenticity High res pictures are available to anyone who asks, I hate those painted on patinas of modern reproductions and high res will let you see what real age looks like. I have not had it appraised but I have an idea of a fair value. Bidders This is a five to seven hundred year old object of great sentiment and I will not send it around for window shoppers, only serious collectors/buyers should bid and if you are new to e-bay please e-mail me so I can evaluate your qualification to buy, I reserve the right to cancel any bid from anyone I do not think is serious, thanks in advance for your understanding.
