This is about the last of the equipment that I will be listing from an estate auction that I attended last Fall. I can't say too much about this item except that I used it for a couple weeks before I realized that it would work a lot better if I would put some weight on the slabs so that they wouldn't just float around in the grit and water. I had some real nice results when I just used the polisher pan for some larger samples that had a single cut. This probably weighs a good 70 to 80 pounds and even at that you will have to put this on a rug or piece of carpet to keep it from walking around your basement. What you are looking at in the first picture is the lap set up with the Polish pan connected and the other pan, screen, and metal plate standing up against the washer. The last picture shows the lap without either of the pans connected just to give you the idea of how it all fits together. The pans will sit just inside the top portion of the lap and will be tightened down with the wing nuts in three locations on the top. Between the bottom motor part and the top part, the top is held in position by three springs attaching the top to the bottom and the top is held off of the bottom by three rubber or plastic balls that sit into the grooves on the bottom and into the grooves at the top part. Pretty slick idea and I am guessing that this style of flat lap must be made pretty well as I have seen three or four others on eBay over the last 9 months that I have been paying attention to the lapidary items. Along with the extra pan and plate and screen is a plastic ring that just fits inside the pans that will keep the sample from banging up against the sides which will keep the noise down as well as protect your sample. I can't see w t could be a problem as this is one of those things that either works or it is broken, no half way conditions. This works well and stays cool even after a few days of continuous vibration. Because of the heavy weight for this item it would only make since to pick it up at my house or I could even deliver it to the Omaha area if needed.
