This auction is for 16 different issues of THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER DOG, offered together as a set. One of the hardest-to-find DC titles from the 1950s, and many issues are especially scarce. ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE IN VERY LOW GRADE AND VERY WORN , considered reader copies or place-holders for your collection, until upgrades are found (if they can be). All have significant cover wear. Overall, the interior pages are cream to light cream; some are cream with darker cream edges. T might be a tear or t on interior pages on a few issues. I have personally counted all the pages and all issues are complete, with the exception of #27 (which is missing 8 pages...all ad & text pages, does not affect stories). I list the issues and content below, and call out what I consider to be only the most severe damage to the covers of each issue. However, t may be (and probably is) other damage that I do not mention, so don’t consider what is listed to be all encompassing. These are all heavily-read, very worn, LOW GRADE copies, and I have neither the desire or time to point out each and every flaw. So, look at the scans, and bid accordingly. Due to their condition, this set is being sold AS IS, with NO REFUNDS. As any collector of REX will tell you...low grade is better than no grade. Don’t be fooled...REX is a tough book to find and this offering represents ABOUT A THIRD of the entire run. Even at these low grades, market value is probably between $120 and $240 for the set. INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION ARE: THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER DOG #12 , November-December 1953. Cover attached, but pieces missing along spine & corners (front and back). Lots of surface wear, some creases, tears at edges, etc. Book feels slightly warped, so may have suffered moisture damage at some point. Tanning to Inside Covers & Back Cover; stains to back cover. Features: The Terror of Tornado Town , by Robert Kanigher (Script), Gil Kane (Pencils) and Sy Barry (Inks); Detective Chimp in The Million Dollar Gorilla , by John Broome (Script), Irwin Hasen (Pencils) and Joe Giella (Inks); and Mountain Fury , by Broome, Kane and Barry. THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER DOG #15 , May-June, 1954. One of the nicer issues in the lot, cover attached, but with a 2-inch split at the spine top and a 1-inch split at bottom. Tears along spine and outer edges, moisture stain back cover top. Features: The Frozen Terror , by Kanigher, Kane and Barry; Detective Chimp in Case of the Fishy Alibi , by Broome with pencils AND inks by Carmine Infantino; and Statues of Doom , by Broome, Kane and Barry. THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER DOG #19 , January-February, 1955. Cover completely detached with significent spine damage, including multiple tears, splits and pieces missing; many tears on back cover and pieces missing. Features: The Gold Stampede , by Kanigher, Gil Kane (Pencils) and Bernard Sachs (Inks); Detective Chimp in See No Evil, Hear No Evil , by Broome and Infantino; and The Four-Footed Lighthouse Keeper , by Broome, Kane and Sachs. THE ADVENTURES OF REX THE WONDER DOG #21 , May-June, 1955. Cover detached at top staple (as are the 1st 10 or so interior pages), cover partially detached at bottom staple; significent spine wear, pieces out; tears along spine at outer edges (front & back covers); tanning to inside covers with a moisture stain visible to inside cover top; very worn with lots of surface wear, multiple creases, folds, dust shadows, etc. Features: Flaming Fury , by Kanigher, Kane and Sachs; Detective Chimp in Secret of the Masked Monkey , by Broome and Infantino; and Clue of the Canine Camera , by Broome, Kane and Sachs.
