12 High Relief Proof Presidential Medals Of America's Favorite Presidents Sculpted by Gilroy Roberts and Mounted on a lovely wall display plaque!! This offering consists of 12 High Relief Presidental Medals commissioned by the White House Historical Society, in 1973, and manufactured by the Franklin Mint. Each medal was sculpted by Gilroy Roberts, the designer of the JFK Half Dollar) is Sterling (.925 fine) Silver and contains 1.332 Troy ounces of pure silver - almost 16 ounces of silver in the set. Please look at the photographs, these are beautiful works you'll display with pride - not the oil company, car wash token images on our gold-colored U.S. Mint presidential dollars. This set is unique in that it consists of 12 of America's All Star Presidents including: George Washington : Commander-in-Chief of Continental Army, 1st President (elected unanimously at that) and "Father of His Country." He presided over the writing of the Constitution in 1787 and conservatively financed a national government that avoided war, suppressed rebellion and won acceptance from all Americans. Thomas Jefferson : 3rd President, Founding Father, Founder of The University of Virginia, principal author of the Declaration of Independence and mastermind of the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the U.S., and of Lewis and Clark's expedition of science and discovery. Scholars consistently rank him as one of the greatest of the U.S. presidents. James Madison : Founding Father, 4th President he was the principal author of the Constitution of the United States and is ofter called the "Father of the Bill of Rights." He wote over one-third of the Federalist Papers and along with Thomas Jefferson founded what has become the Democratic Party of today. James Monroe : 5th President, he was the last of the Founding Fathers to become President of the U.S.. He authored the Monroe Doctrine warning Europeans not to attempt to further colonize the Western Hemisphere, or face U.S. intervention. He successfully reduced partisian political tensions ushering in "The Era of Good Feelings" and presided over Missouri's admission to the U.S. Andrew Jackson : 7th President, Hero of the Battle of New Orleans and the War of 1812-14. Held military leadership roles in the Creek and Seminole Indian Wars. In 1835 he reduced the federal debt to its lowest level ($33,733) since 1791. A protector of popular democracy and individual liberties he shaped the early Democratic Party. Abraham Lincoln : 16th President who successfully guided the United States through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserved the Union and ended slavery. He issued the Emancipation Proclamation and supported the 13th Amendment to the Constitution prohibiting slavery. In his second inaugural address he expressed a moderate view of reconstruction that would have, "malice toward none; with charity for all..." he recommended the government "bind up the nation's wounds." Ulysses Simpson Grant : 18th President, final Commander-in-Chief of Union Forces during the Civil War. 1st president to serve 2 full terms since Jackson 40 years earlier. He led Reconstruction efforts, signed and enforced civi rights laws, and battled Ku Klux Klan violence. During his presidency the first African-Americans were elected to the Congress. Theodore Roosevelt : 26th President, Roosevelt's achievements as a naturalist , explorer, hunter, author and soldier are as much a part of his fame as any office he held as a politician . He is the youngest person to become President. Taking office at 42 after President McKinley's was assassinated. He attempted to move the Republican Party in the direction of Progressivism by busting trusts that were restraining competition and increasing the regulation of business.
