PRODUCED IN THE NETHERLAND EAST INDIES UNTIL LATE 1700'S (THEREAFTER NO LONGER SHOWING VOC, INSTEAD OBVERSE LETTERING IS "NEDER INDIES"); AND AFTER THE LATE 1700'S, DURING EARLY 1800'S STILL KNOWN AS VOC NEW YORK CENT / PENNY; NO LONGER WITH LETTERING VOC. $ Prior to (and during as well as after) the formation of the United States, these VOC coins were one of the accepted currencies exchanged in our colonies.
