[12], 276 pp.; [6], 139 pp. Complete. Printer's device to title page and woodcut ornamental devices & initials. Original paper binding with handwritten label to spine. Famous "Vita of St. Ignatius Loyola" by Ribadeneyra bound with "Account of the Beatification of St. Ignatius of Loyola". Written in French. Ribadeneyra (1526 - 1611), a Spanish Jesuit from a illustrious family of Toledo, was a talented, eloquent and zealous preacher who was sent by the Society to many diplomatic missions. Outside of the Society of Jesus, Ribadeneira is chiefly known for his literary works. His compatriots regard him as a master of Castilian and rank him among the classic authors of their tongue. His chief claim to glory is his Life of St. Ignatius Loyola, in which he speaks as an eye-witness, admirably supported by documents. Perhaps the work abounds too much in anecdotal details which tend to obscure the grand aspect of the saint's character and genius (Analecta Bolland., XXIII, 513). He did ardently promote the canonization of St.Ignace of Loyola. Very very scarce edition of this work!! Biblio.stamp of Jesuit Society of Brig (Switzerland) and Ex Libris to title page.
