Brooke's Catalogue of Armes BROOKE, Ralph. A Catalogueand succession of the Kings, Princes, Dukes, Marquesses, Earles, andViscounts of this Realme of England, since the Norman Conquest, to this present yeere 1622. Together with their Armes, Wives, and Children; the times of their Deaths and Burials, with many of their memorable Actions. Collected by Ralph Brooke, Esquire, Yorke Herauld, and by him inlarged, with amendment of divers faults, committed by the Printer, in the time of the Authors sicknesse . [London: William Stansby], 1622. Small folio [27.5 x 18.5 cm]. (6), 392 pp, (1) leaf of contents. Several leaves mispaginated, but collated and complete , though lacking the first blank leaf. With ornate woodcut architectural title page, woodcut border on final leaf, and hundreds of woodcut heraldic arms in text as well as numerous woodcut initials, many partially colored in red or yellow. Bound in 19 th century half-calf over marbled boards with raised bands and gilt titles on spine. Endpapers renewed more recently. Upper joints split but holding by a few cords – a rebacking would be helpful. Occasional spotting but mainly a very good copy, pages clean and fresh. Second, corrected edition of Brooke's famous heraldry. An unusual example showing some attempt at coloring (and rarely found as such!). Many - perhaps just under half
