1633 King James Bible Apocrypha loose pages removed from damaged Bible These pages were carefully removed from an authentic 378 year old page out ofa Kings James / Authorized version of the Holy Bible that was printed by the official Printers to the Universitie of Cambridge in 1633. These pages are 4to (quarto) format and measures approximately 6” x 8”. These pages are in worn condition & are stained and have minor tearing. Regardless, this is a wonderful piece of Christian tradition and history. NOTE : This is NOT a complete Apocrypha. It starts at I Esdras Chapter 1 and is missing through Ecclesiasticus Chapter 7; I estimate that it is 60% complete. HISTORY OF THE SPECIFIC BIBLE THAT THIS PAGE WAS REMOVED FROM: This Bible was owned by Edward Bainton, Earl of Stanford & Member of the House of Commons. He was one of the members of Parliament that voted to raise an army against King Charles in the English Civil War of 1642-1645, and later supported the execution of the King. King Charles was beheaded and thus began the Inter-Reignal Period of English history. This 15 year period is the only time in history that England was without a monarch. Not much is known of Earl Bainton, except for the record of his votes in the House of Commons archives in London. We do know that he had to have been very well off even to own a personal copy of the Bible. At the start of the 17 th century, a Bible cost the equivalent of THREE MONTHS PAY! That is why many churches had to actually chain their Bible to the pulpit – to keep thieves from stealing the precious copy of God’s word! Edward Bainton signed this Bible on the back of the New Testament title page. This exact Bible is where this page has been carefully removed from. HISTORY OF THE KING JAMES (AUTHORIZED) VERSION OF THE BIBLE The King James or Authorized Version of the Holy Bible is one of the most loved books from history. First printed in 1611 after seven years of careful study by scores of theologians and scholars, it's beautiful prose and rhythm have lead many to call it the greatest work of poetry ever written. Rev. Dr. Talbot W. Chambers, himself one of the original revisers of the Old Testament, has very beautifully and truly said of the King James' Version as follows: "The merits of the Authorized Version, in point of fidelity to the original, are universally acknowledged. No other version, ancient or modern, surpasses it, save, perhaps, the Dutch, which was made subsequently, and profited by the labors of the English translators. The King James Version that we have and use today is NOT the original 1611 translation. The version printed today is based on a 1769 edition printed by the Oxford Press. The best way to admire the wording and beauty of the original is to obtain of copy from the early 17 th century. I encourage you to take out your modern Kings James Bible and compare the wording in it to the wording on this page. You will instantly notice the difference. The prose and poetry of the original King James is unmatched and unsurpassed. No wonder that this book has been called the greatest work of poetry ever written!
