An Original 1639 King James Bible
Printed by Robert Barker 1639 (a printing of the Great 'He' Bible) This bible is complete and unrestored, the binding is tight with no loose pages. As with all antique books of this era there are few pages with superficial damage but i would generally say this bible is in remarkable condition for its great age. The bible is complete with the book of common prayer and the book of psalmes. sympathetic recovering would enhance the value of this historic bible even futher, but it is a wonderful feeling to hold the original binding in you hand and see the tooling work of the original bookbinder. The printings of the King James Bible produced in the 1600's are so strikingly different than the "King James Version" Biblesbeing published in modern times, it is a wonderful re-capturing of ourChristian heritage to actually own one of the precious ancient copies that were among the first to come off a press. The Authorized King James Version is an English translation by the Church of England of the Christian Bible begun in 1604 and completed in 1611. First printed by the King's Printer, Robert Barker, this was the third such official translation into English. "It would be difficult now," writes Gordon Campbell in his Bible: The Story of the King James Version , "to bring together a group of more than 50 scholars with the range of languages and knowledge of other disciplines that characterised the KJV translators. We may live in a world with more knowledge, but it is populated by people with less knowledge." Whilst the originality of the translation has been disputed, and the princes errors in some versions easily mocked, its influence is undisputed, and "The King James version of the Bible" continues Campbell "is the most celebrated book in the English speaking world.
