A VERY ATTRACTIVE c. 1640 QUARTO EDITION OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE
The Authorized version of the HOLY BIBLE With the Apocrypha. This is an original antiquarian book, printed in 1640-1647, and is offered for consideration starting at $1 and no reserve. : As always, if you are not fully satisfied with your purchase, you may return it in the same condition sent for any reason. Please see my other auctions this week. The Book: [KING JAMES VERSION] The Holy Bible : containing the Old Testament and the New. Printed at London : By Robert Barker ... and by the assignes of John Bill., 1640. O.T. Title within architectural frame, with the Four Evangelists. Title Page mounted as depicted. BOUND WITH...The New Testament of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ : Newly translated out of the Originall Greek, and with the former Translations diligently compared and revised, by his Majesties speciall commandment. Imprinted at London : By Robert Barker, Printer to the Kings most excellent Majestie, and by the Assignes of John Bill, 1641. The New Testament in the King James version, translation prepared at the proposal of King James I, under the direction of L. Andrewes. Title within architectural frame, with the Four Evangelists. BOUND WITH... [Thomas Sternhold; John Hopkins] The Whole booke of psalmes : set forth and allowed to be sung in churches, of all the people together before and after morning and evening prayer ... London : Printed by E.G. for the Company of Stationers, 1647. Collation for Psalms: [10], 90, [5] p. : music. This collation apparently matches the University of Illinois Library copy, but final catchword present appears to indicate a missing last leaf of the book of Psalms. 4to., 21.5 cm., Overall a handsome and COMPLETE bible, save for a terminal leaf of the added Psalms, with all the titles pages present. 19th century attractive (though scuffed) blind tooled binding with raised bands and gilt spine, hinges very weak as depicted, front board partially detaching, later endpapers and flyleaves. Internally, some occasional browning and staining as usual, a few margins chipped, but a reasonably fresh copy. Binding: Provenance: Blyth family (Incidentally, Pres. Clinton was born and descended from the Blythe (Blyth) line. )
