1685 Allain Mallet Map - Cercle de Baviere Allain Mallet was a much travelled French engineer who published an historical/geographical work in five volumes. It was extensively illustrated with engravings of maps, charts, plans and views, both ancient and contemporary. The original edition was published in Paris in 1683 and this fine copperplate engraving is from a German edition Beschreibung des gantzen welt-kreisses published in Frankfurt in 1685. The map shows Bavaria (Bayern) in south east Germany. Prominent is the city of Munich (München) and Adolf Hitler's mountain retreat at Berchtesgarden. The map is in excellent condition, with later full wash hand coloring and is printed without folds. The map measures 4.275 X 5.5 inches (11 X 14 cm) and is engraved on a page measuring 6.0 X 8.0 inches (15 X 20 cm). T is some minor discoloration at the edge of the page.
