17 VOL LEATHER BOUND ILLUSTRATED SHAKESPEARE BOOKS 1788 Presented is a fine 17 volume set of The Dramatick Writings of William Shakspere printed under the direction of John Bell in 1788 and 1785. These are printed complete from the additions of Samuel Johnson and George Stevens. The brown leather bindings are gilt with flowers and scrolls on the spines. Each book contains multiple illustrations. We are selling the books AS IS. The bindings have numerous problems. All of the volumes have considerable wear to the leather on the edges of the bindings, and most of the spines are no longer readable. Eight of the volumes have a cover that is completely detached from the binding. The bindings on four of the volumes have split all the way through so that the books are in multiple pieces. The bindings on the other five books are still intact. The pages have some stains, but overall they are readable. Still the books are quite nice and will look good on a shelf and they are well over 200 years old. Each volume measures 3 3/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches and is about 1 1/4 inches thick.
