Description of Item for Sale: This wonderful old Provincial clock is from France and it dates to the late 1700âe(tm)s/early 1800âe(tm)s. We had this clock in our home for several years w it ran very reliably. The 1-day clockworks (yes, you wind it every morningâe¦) are driven by a single weight that drives both the time and strike mechanisms. The clock tolls out the hours on a large (original) nickel bell. The hand painted face is sealed behind a thin glass panel. The case is made from quarter-sawn oak that is fastened by pegs. It is very solid and in excellent antique condition, especially considering its age. The wood is finished with several coats of high quality paste wax and shows a perfect patina of 200+ years of use-the shine you see is not varnish-itâe(tm)s the polished wax plus the age of the wood! Note that the base trim (bottom 2 inches) is newer replacement wood and t is a replacement back panel on the lower 3âe(tm) of the back. I assume that these parts were added to replace sections damaged by woodworm or dry rot-not unusual on the lower part of a very old piece like this. T are a few woodworm holes (almost all in the back panel) but we observed no active worm over the years that we had this nice clock in our home. The door glass is original old glass and all of the woodwork except the base appears to be old and original. Dimensions: 88" tall, 20" wide, 12" deep.
