This is a fine fancy antique open or master salt cellar from my grandmother's estate. This piece is hallmarked with a C , a crowned lion head, a WA and a passant lion. I researched this set of hallmarks and it appears to be late 1700s , from a listed maker , William Abdy. The silver piece is approx. 3" long and 2" and stands on four legs with ball and claw feet. The silver body is a pierced design with fancy swags and cartouches on either side, one plain and one with a flower or wheel design. T are also urns on either end. The removeable cobalt blue glass insert is unusual, featuring a star like pattern on the base. T are some fleabites on the rim. The legs are on a slight diagonal, not quite squared. T are still spots of old silver polish on the salt cellar body, which shows up as whitish spots, in the photos. I have left this piece as is, from the estate. I estimate this to be late 18th century. As is, no reserve, thank you for looking!
