From my own private collection, an absolutely magnificent walnut French Apothecary Chest from the mid-1700's to Revolutionary War era. You will not find a better one in any museum we know of anywhere! This is a very large chest (approximately 22" X 12" X 8" closed) and features a never-before-encountered rare construction design. Once the chest is opened, one end-panel lifts completely out revealing the lower drawer beneath (which has two layers). Even when this drawer is completely removed, the well-hidden "poison" compartment is invisible. To access it, there are two thumb latches on the inside lower side-panels. These pull out the side panels and the attached poison compartment at the opposite end. Difficult to explain, so please see photos. The chest is complete with ALL BOTTLES (some of the rarest bottles you have ever seen). Many extras including a solid silver mixing spatula, original wrapped dry medications and herbals, etc. Original key is present and triple-bar lock still functions well. All fittings are hand-forged. I could go on here and still never do this magnificent piece justice, so please e-mail with any questions or for additional details and extensive photos.
