Miscellanea Curiosa by Edmond Halley, 1708. Vol. I. Size about 12mo. 401 pp. Great early volume published during Isaac Newton's lifetime -- rare collection of works! The book consists of papers, collected by Edmond Halley , published by the Royal Society . Many of the collected papers are authored by Edmond Halley -- of Halley's Comet -- himself. Most of the papers are directly from the Philosophical Transactions Royal Society journal. An example: A print of Isaac Newton's paper on the theory of color from 1672 is included: "... A Letter of Mr . Isaac Newton, Professor of the Mathematicks in the University of Cambridge; containing his New Theory about Light and Colors ..." Works by Isaac Newton , Edmond Halley , on Robert Hooke , etc. are included. ( See pics ) Newton's Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica and Opticks are both cited. Also cited, in different papers in this book, are John Flamsteed (Astronomer Royal), Robert Boyle (the Father of Modern Chemistry), Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek (Father of Microbiology), William Harvey , William Gilbert -- and many other key scientists. Boyle's foundational work of modern chemistry, The Sceptical Chymist , is also cited. Spine and binding are weak; appear to have been glued in places. There are a few small tears to the first couple of pages, and dampstain damage to the bottom of many pages, such as the plates (see pics) The bottom part of the spine is missing (see pics). Overall, a valuable reading copy, considering the rarity and content. Questions welcome!
