1714 King George I English Peace Medal- It is a most grevious sin to list such an Indian peace medal under reproduction but rather than chance that a listing will be removed by some meddling moron, I'm listing as repro. This type of english peace medal was given to the American Indians who performed some important service for the British. In 1714 England traded Cuba to the Spanish for Florida. This was the first year that King George I of England was in power. A fort was built on the east coast of Florida and called fort George. Peace medals were made in England and sent by ship to fort George to be given to Indians in the area of the fort that were of high rank in their tribe. These medals were highly prized by the Indian Cheifs and half chiefs. The medals were struck in sterling silver and fine pewter and German silver. All were holed for neck suspension on a string of perhaps glass beads. OBVERSE0 Shows a bust of King George I in full armor.
