Offered is a partially dated two (2) reales silver coin from the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet shipwreck Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. The coin was recovered in 1989 from the wreck, just south of Fort Pierce, Florida by Demostenes (Mo) Molinar and his crew working from the world famous treasure salvage vessel, the VIRG-A-LONA. The coin is very pure silver and the size as compared to a penny is as shown (see photo). Old Spanish silver coins are brittle but this one could be bezeled VERY CAREFULLY BY A SKILLED JEWELER (we like gold as the bezel highlights the coin features). There is one certificate issued by Historical Research & Development, Inc. of which Mo Molinar was one of the founders. Mo had his own company at the time , Mo Divers, Inc. Note - this coin would look very cool in a gold bezel. It is a 2 reales coin as identified by the Mel Fisher Company, eroded from sea water electrolysis or possibly clipped to make "change" as coins were in those days of Colonial Spain. The partial date "71" can be found next to the s,all "o" which is part of the Mexican mint mark "oM." Please note this coin is considered a fragment as graded by the Mel Fisher company.
