1760s Stiegel Enamelled Glass Bottle w/Stag
Presented is a brightly painted Stiegel glass bottle. The bottle is clear blown glass with lead caps, painted with enamel in vibrant colors, including red, yellow, blue, white, and green. The motifs used reflect typical Pennsylvania German traditions of decoration. This piece was probably produced at the Stiegel glassworks in Pennsylvania, ca. 1760s-1780s.
This bottle features a painted scene of a stag in a field, rearing up on its hind legs on one side. The opposite side is painted with a floral motif. This bottle also has a lead cap. This cap is slightly loose, and has some wear. However, the cap could be tightened easily. Otherwise, t are no problems with this bottle. The cap screws on and off easily, and the threading in good condition.
This bottle is a beautiful piece of German-American folk art.
