is a RARE 1766 LAND DEED FROM SARAGHTOGA, NEW YORK . THE SPELLING OF "SARAGHTOGA" IS THE WAY IT IS ON THE DOCUMENT, IT IS APPROXIMENTLY THE SAME PLACE AS MODERN SARATOGA SPRINGS- see info below. This land deed is folded in half vertically & has 2 folds from when is was folded horizontally, has a faded stamp attached to the right edge. The writing is very hard for me to read, but appears to be a land deal involving a Lieut. Thomas Swords agreeing to sell William Cockburn 1/12 undivided interest in six thousand acres, dated Dec. 2 1766. T is a pencil writing of "#159" on one side, probably done before my Grandfather got this in the 1930s. The photos show both sides of the deed, the scan is of the dated area. The deed is in great condition for it's age. It measures approx. 14 1/2" by 9" when opened. It has 1 super tiny hole on the main part of the writing, tiny holes at the point w the horizontal & vertical folds meet, 1 tiny hole on the fold by the stamp, a rough small hole near the right edge with a small tear on the edge with edge wear and a corner bend just below it. Main flaw is someone has trimmed the very top edge- the cut is slightly wavy, probably done many years ago to removed edge damage. This is a very nice piece, 242 years old! Great for your collection! I have many more from this period & era that I will be listing over
