This teapot dates to 1769 London, according to its hallmarks. The maker's mark is "CW", and I have been unable to identify that particular mark (if you know it, please email me). It sports a simple but lovely circumferential foliate design motif, and bears wreaths on either side that, amazingly, are unmonogrammed. It measures roughly 9 inches across at its widest point and 5.5 inches high. It weighs 1 lb., 1.6 ounces. The surface is remarkably clean, given its age, with minor suface marks and only one small ding (to the left of the handle) that I could detect. The handle is ivory, a bit yellowed and aged, and it is missing the retaining pin at the bottom of the handle, so I never lift it by the handle. The lid sits almost completely flush with the body, and bears a lion hallmark on its underside. The interior of the pot is tarnished but otherwise undisturbed. The lid's knob may not be original, I suspect; it's unfinished wood capped with silver. All in all, a terrifically collectible piece that predates the Declaration of Independence.
