`1775` British Half Pence. NGC graded Mint Error AU-50 Brown Double Struck 2nd Strike Off Center. A dramatic double strike, showing heavy overlapping design detail on both obverse and reverse. The surfaces are rich chocolate brown in color and lacking any serious marks or scratches. The need for small change by settlers began almost as soon as they started colonizing the North American continent and by the late 17th century sufficient amounts of copper coinage was being exported to the American Colonies. This trend would continue until 1795 and among these copper issues that reached North America were regal British halfpence copper issues. A significant and highly desirable error in very high quality.
