A wonderful 18th century leather covered document box with remnants of the original cast iron lock. It appears to be in very good condition with some leather missing on two sides and tears and t - please see pics. It measures 8.5" X 19" X 10.5", curved top, missing some metal buttons, but overall a good looking primitive piece. Inside it is lined with an old Ontario Repository newspaper dated Wednesday, September 27, 1826. These old boxes never got lined with newspapers until they were very old and so if this is an indication of age it would surely have been around 50 years earlier than this during the Revolutionary War time. A great find and has a great prescence - very strudy and durable in spite of its 200 plus years. Shipping will be $35 in the U.S. and $70 overseas. I have a very nice leather document box also listed that would have also been around during the Revolutionary War time - please see my other auctions.
