1779 CONT EUROPEAN ENGRAVED PORTRAIT PEWTER BOWL Presented is a marvelous continental European pewter bowl or deep plate. The bowl/plate is wonderfully hand engraved with a portrait of a man at the center. The man is dressed in 18th century attire and smoking a pipe. T is a vase of flowers to his left dated 1779. The wide rim of the bowl is also engraved with a design of intertwining lines. The bowl is hallmarked on the underside with three marks as you can see in the fourth photo. One of the hallmarks appears to have the date 1818. I believe this piece was probably made in 1818 and not 1779, although I am not certain. The numbers in the hallmark might not be a date. Please decide for yourselves. The condition is excellent. T are no dents, no splits, no breaks, and no repairs. The bowl measures 9 3/8 inches in diameter.
