You are bidding on a very rare and 100% original - authentic - genuine 227 Year Old handcolored antique map of the above region from one of the most sought after atlases of the 18th centrury - the 1780 edition of Atlas Globe Terrestre by the famous cartographer Rigobert Bonne. Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795 ) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. In 1773 he succeeded Jacques Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine . Working in his official capacity Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne's work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. Bonne maps are highly regarded for their detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal. The complete atlases sell for between $5,000 to $10,000 and individual maps from this atlas sell for hundreds of dollars. I cannot stress enough how beautiful these maps are up close compared to the photos that you see. Note that the photos do not do the map justice. These are truly incredible maps to behold!! General Description: 1.Strikingly interesting and highly detailed map. Incredibly beautiful handcoloring. The map depicts in great detail all of the geographical information known at the time the map was published. Depending on the map in the listing, note that many geographical details have changed since the map was published and were not accurate compared to today's modern maps!! Map symbols and details include individual towns, rivers, lakes, bays, harbors, islands, mountains, forests, roads and other important places as shown on the map in this listing. 2. The map is in excellent condition considering the age of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is approximately 15 inches by 10 inches. T is a centerfold as issed in the atlas. Any apparent darkness along the fold line is just the shadow of the fold when I took the photo. 3. The map is a 100% orignal and genuine antique map. I will also send you a copy of the title page as proof of authenticity for your records. 4. Full retail prices of the maps from this atlas are in the hundreds and hundreds of dollars . The starting price for this map is far, far lower than the full retail price. These individual maps rarely come up fo auction and if they do then not at a low price like this. All of my maps are investment grade and collectible quality. The value of this original will only increase over time. Many people are now starting to offer cheap reproductions/copies.
