This Wonderful and Authentic Colonial American Indian Document is of 1789 and is on Laid Paper with a Papermakers Watermark. This Very Rare Northeast Indian Manuscript is in Nice Sound Condition However I have added Three Small Pieces of Archival Tape to Tighten The Folds up. An Inquisition Taken at New Bedford within The County of Bristol The First Day of February in The Year of our Lord 1789 Jireh Willis Gentleman One of The Coroners of The sd County of Bristol upon The View of The Body Of ELSE JOEL AN INDIAN WOMAN T LYING DEAD BY the Oaths of 12 Yeoman Good and Lawful Men who being Charged and Sworn to Enquire for the Commonwealth When How and by What Means The sd Else Joel came to Her Death . Upon their Oaths Do say that the said Else Joel on The Night following the 30th of January last in sd New Bedford by Drinking Spirituous Liquor to Excess which rendered her incapable to help Herself She Perished with the Cold and so The Jurors upon their Oaths do say that the said Else Joel came to Her Death by Misfortune.
