This item is a wonderful, original pair of documents, 1791 where Andrew Ward and Joshua King have each signed an War bond,interest bearing certificate from the State of Connecticut. Signed at lower right by Ward and King, each document is 2x4, in overall fine shape. Andrew Ward b. 19 Nov 1727, Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA, d. 10 Jan 1799, Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut, USA.He began his training as a soldier when he was eighteen, and went as aide to his father on that famous expedition of the colonies against the fortress of Louisburg. In 1757, at thirty years of age, he was captain of a company of militia sent to Fort No. 4 on the Connecticut River, now the little town of Charlestown, Vermon.At the session of the General Assembly held in the month of April, 1775, six regiments were ordered to be raised. Andrew Ward was made Lieutenant Colonel of the First Regiment (under Colonel Wooster of New Haven) and Captain of the second company in the regiment. His company was made up of Guilford men; there were only thirty-nine men on its roll, and it served until November, 1775. It was stationed first at Harlem, and later along Lakes George and Champlain.
