We are pleased to offer for auction the rare and important section on the history and practice midwifery extracted from an incomplete copy of the 1797 Encyclopaedia Britannica . The article is 52 pages in length (all with double columns of text on each page, so the number of pages is effectively doubled); the text is accompanied by ELEVEN copperplate engravings. Included is a four page section that explains the illustrations on the plates. Each section covers the history of its subject, and then goes onto enormous technical and medical detail. Collectively, they provide a fascinating look into the late 18th century understanding of midwifery. Just some of the sections are:

4to (Quarto). 10.75 x 8.5 inches (268 x 212mm). 52 pages and 5 copperplate engravings. The articles are dis-bound from incomplete copies of the 1797 Encyclopaedia Britannicas .

CONDITION: The text sections and plates are in very good condition. The plates show some light foxing in the outer margin and the last few pages show some water damage.
