1797 PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN HYMM BOOK AND PSALMS OF DAVID WITH CATECHISMS Published by Steiner & Kammerer Philadelphia 1797 (date on title page) Over 700 pages. 6 1/4" X 4 1/2". With frontispiece. Profuse musical notation. The first 148 pages are 150 psalms with some set to music. Followed by a another title page dated 1797 and 700 essays or verses with several set to music on 585 pages. Followed by an index and Catechisms. Bound in original leather binding. It still has one brass clasp. Missing the other one. With two owners names written on the flyleaves and dated 1835. In good condition with all text pages and front flyleaf and endpapers. Several pages have folded over corner creases. The front endpaper had a very old book plate that has been peeled off. All pages are tightly bound and with good hinges. The spine ends are slightly chipped. All of the paper is still supple and not brittle. NO stains, soiling, tears or chips. NO library marks. No ink marks or underlining or marginal handwritten notes. Some pages have small Pennsylvania German decorations. The rear endpapers are waterstained but the waterstaining does not go through to the pages. The last pages of text are not waterstained.
