I bought this item several years ago from Wan Chang International located in Hong Kong. They are a member if the O.C.S. which is the Oriental Ceramic Society in London and The Hong Kong Art Craft Antique Authentication Committee. It came from their private museum which is Liuli Museum. They have a collection of ancient and antique art.. This Buddha is an EXCEPTIONALLY RARE piece. Most IMPORTANT it is a HUGE statue dating from around the 17th Century. The statue has many exquisite details. White Tara, the female deity of the Buddhists, holds a very prominent position in Tibet and Nepal. This cast Bronze Buddha is HEAVY and 100% authentic and would reliably sell for over $15,000 in the US at a fine antique dealer of Oriental antiquities. It was recommended to me that I insure if for $20,000. WHITE TARA is the female deity of the Buddhist Boddhisatwa of compassion in Tibet and Nepal. Tara is believed to protect the human being. WHITE TARA is portrayed usually seated, dressed and crowned like a Boddhisatwas. She has seven eyes on forehead, palms and feet and sits on a lotus flower in full Bajra Posture. Her right hand is in the boon conferring posture. She is wearing all sorts of precious ornaments. She is looked upon for prolong life as well as for healing purposes. BRONZE is an alloy of copper and tin usually mixed with small amounts of other elements. First appearing in western Asia in the 4th Millennium BC, bronze has been used in a diverse range of utilitarian household items. Because of it's strength and durability this makes it one of the most suitable mediums for casting sculpture that last for an eternity. I was offered a TL (thermo luminescence) test to prove it's authenticity. I did not do this because of the reputation of this museum. I did take it to my local museum and the director at that time said in his opinion it was indeed as authentic as I was told it is and definitely in the dollar range in value as was stated to me. If you wish to have this test performed it may be worth this for your satisfaction. The gilt on the bronze is in great shape for an item of this age and seemingly has never been touched up or re gilded. The carvings on this are extraordinary and as detailed as one can detail bronze. It is 18 inches tall 12 inches wide and 6.8 inches deep. It was as I stated Disaccensioned form the Manno Museum of Art in Osaka, Japan into LiuLi museum, private museum. They had many items for sale in order to make room for other antiquities that they were wanting to add to their collection. It is in good condition with no repairs. chips or cracks. It is from the QING DYNASTY (Kangxi 1662-1722). PLease feel free to ask any question. I have answered to the best of my ability all that I know and all that I was told of this exquisite Buddha but will be happy to answer what ever I can. If you take this item and prove that it is not as described I will refund your money as soon as it is returned to me in the same condition as you received it in with documentation stating that it is not original from a reputable antique appraiser with credentials. Shipping costs will be the entire responsibility of the buyer. I use UPS to pack and ship simply because if they pack it and they ship it and it is damaged they have no recourse in saying the item was not packed properly and tfore deny any damage claim. This cost will be determined at the close of the auction determined by the winners location. It will be double boxed and FULLY insured no exceptions. Thank you for your consideration and happy bidding on this EXTREMELY rare antiquity.
