17 th Century Imperial Chinese Enamel/Copper Cup and Saucer This extraordinarily beautiful Chinese enamel cup and saucerwith dragon handle painted with dragons on a yellow ground is a collector’s dream. From the estate of someone who valued his Oriental art, the cup and saucer were made from enamel on copper and carry the four character reign mark of the Emperor Shunzhi who ruled China from 1644 to 1661. If the piece is of the period suggested, then it is an Imperial piece of the finest quality.IMPORTANT NOTE: My appraiser pointed out that Chinese reign marks should always be treated with caution. Virtually all marks are on pieces of a later date than suggested and placed there either as homage to the earlier period or with the intent to deceive. This piece could have been made during the latter part of the 19th century. Sadly, the saucer has been damaged over the years in what appears to be a heat generated event. Nevertheless, the integrity of the piece is intact.Measurements—Height: 2.5 inches, Width: 5 inches, Depth: 2.5 inches.Inquiries and any additional information will be appreciated.Thank you for bidding.
