1941 Martin acoustic guitar0-18 serial number 78445Guitar has been through a lot. At some point it suffered water damage. I bought it in 2010 from Norman's Rare Guitars in LA. At that time the back was separating from the sides, the top needed re-bracing, a fret job, new tuners, but it still sounded amazing . Addressing all those issues it was restored by Martin Guitars in 2011 with restraint. The neck has been reset and the guitar is currently setup to play with the action measuring 3/16" at the 12th fret with more than enough saddle to lower the action. The width at the nut is 1 5/8" inches. It's the original nut and the new frets are period accurate. The scallop-bracing was re-attached and is solid with none of the heavier bracing of Post-War Martins which can distract from the dynamic range of the guitar's sound. With a bottleneck it has a truly beautiful tone.It has Waverly nickel tuning machines with ebony knobs.All of the work that you invariably have to do on a vintage guitar has been done for you here! It's solid and ready to be played!Rare dark shaded finish. As seen in the photos, the finish is showing all its miles. No touch-ups or overspray. There are many guitars available that are less worn and probably sound fine if that's what you want. This Martin looks and feels like it's seen the inside of many house parties and juke-joints. It's the real thing and sounds like it.Smooth and easy action. It is a beautiful, full voiced musical partner.Non-original hard shell case (for a larger guitar) included. If it was replaced, it was long ago. I exchanged some photos with new ones that show the pickguard better. Additional info: August 1st: New photos showing the interior of the guitar with scalloped bracing and the standard "x" -- you can see the new linen repair. Also a close detail image of the finish on the back of the guitar. Pretty amazing... Additional info: August 2nd: I do have the original tuners and I can include them in the sale. I can include a copy of the receipt from Martin for their work. The bridge and bridgeplate are original as far as I can tell. I didn't get all of this info certified when I purchased it. I just picked it up, played it and went,"Whoa!" Additional info: August 5th in answer to questions received: The finish over the entire guitar has different representations of what I can only assume was exposure to moisture for an extended period. The neck is unmarked by this. The fretboard is unmarked. The inside of the guitar seems to be unmarked too, as you can kind of see in the two photos which show the interior. But the finish on the body - the back, sides, front along with the pickguard - have various evidence of exposure to water; rippling, fogging, craquelure. Anyone who doesn't appreciate the beauty of those qualities, should probably not think of buying this guitar. As for the separation, the most pronounced area is on the left "shoulder" where the back meets the sides. I've uploaded a new photo with an arrow showing the spot.
