This beautiful parang was handmade by Badjao blacksmiths who live in the northeast of the isla nd of Borneo. The Badjao have long inhabited the islands in and around the Sulu Sea. The area is now divided between Malaysia and the Philippines. This parang was made with hand forged carbon spring steel. This parang is a little different from a classic Badjao parang in that it has serrations along the spine and a bowie type swedge. This is the only rambo parang I could find and I actually would love to keep it for my own collection. This parang measures in at around 18.5” overall. The handle is 5.5” long and is beautifully hand carved, as is the scabbard, out of native acacia wood. The checkering on the handle and scabbard really helps with maintaining a positive grip. The bolster on the handle is aluminum and provides strength where it is most needed. The 3/16” thick blade is 13” and is razor sharp along most of its length. The blade also has two fullers that are not found on classic parangs. Please note there are some minor epoxy fills on the handle. The scabbard has a hole through which you could pass rope or string if you wished to lash it to your belt. This is how parangs are normally carried in the field.
