Antique handmade & hand forged wrought iron two man log & beam lifting hook of fine craftsmanship and retaining it's original old natural surface. We found this in the barn. A pole was passed through the eye hole long enough for a man to hold and lift at each side. The hook, similar to later hand held pulp hook, was tacked into the log or beam end to be moved. The two men lifted and moved the raised end to it's destination. This is a deceptive tool for it is incredibly vital in reducing labor & time and only those who have moved logs & beams would know this. A single man could use this too but the scale of the hook & eye designate this as "two man". House sills, barn beams, wood lot logs and farm yard construction projects all would want this scarce tool when it came to manipulating large, long & heavy pieces of wood. These early log hooks, particularly in this fine condition, are quite scarce. Very good as found condition . The log & beam hook is beautifully made and in perfect original condition. Right out of a Maine Colonial barn, it has appropriate surface oxidation, wear and soiling for it's age and from it's old Maine farm residence. Please see photographs. As found last month in a coastal fishing farm near Friendship, Maine .. Seeking things fresh found in attics? Please see our other listings from this estate. This was in the barn.
