Offered in this auction is a very old St. Francis & St. Anthony rosary. This rare antique rosary was part of the estate of a Catholic Priest. This is an exceptional rosary composed of dark metal beads and finely detailed silver metalwork. The oblong shaped 1/4" metal beads are smooth and polished from years of prayer and veneration. All 59 beads are present and intact - none are missing, damaged, replaced or repaired. These beads are polished a very dark grey. The 2" silver and gold wash crucifix is exquisitely detailed with a finely carved image of St. Francis in raised relief on one side, along with the words ' Blessing of St. Francis of Assisi The Lord Bless Thee And Keep Thee May He Show His Face To Thee And Have Pity On Thee May He Turn His Countenance Towards Thee and Give Thee Peace The Lord Bless Thee ' and a finely carved image of St. Anthony in raised relief on the reverse side, with the words ' Blessing of St. Anthony of Padua Behold The Cross of The Lord The Lion of The Tribe of Juda The Root of David Has Conquered Alleluia Alleluia '. The bail of the crucifix is stamped 'Italy'. The crucifix alone weighs 12 grams. The beautifully detailed 1/2" silver centerpiece features a stunning profile of the Virgin Mary in raised relief on one side, and a glorious image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in raised relief on the reverse
