ELECTRO-SHOCK THERAPY!
Object Name Davis & Kidder's Patent Magneto-Electric Machine Type of Object Machine, electric stimulation Manufacturer W. H. Burnap Place of Manufacture New York (N.Y.) Date of Manufacture 1875-1885 Time Period Nineteenth century Dimensions 11 cm. x 25 cm. x 11.5 cm. Physical Details Davis & Kidder's Patent Magneto-Electric Machine in a wooden case. Case contains brass and metal markings, and a large, horseshoe shaped metal magnet, connected to a brass rectangular frame. Frame has two large gear wheels, and two felt-covered spools that are rotated by turning the wheels with an ivory and brass handle. Inside of the case has a label and instructions. Two metal cylinders with original wire and connectors fit into opposite sides of the case. Quack instrument used "in the treatment of nervous diseases." Medical Subject Electric Stimulation Therapy -- instrumentation I believe this to be one of the early models because it does not have the makers mark stamped on the brass frame as is typical with this device The box is locked OPEN and I have no key, so the box cannot be closed completely. An applicable skeleton key should be easily found. The only other thing wrong is that the jack for connecting the left hand held metal cylinder is missing. Believe me, the magneto works!.. The felt on the magnetos is in great condition. The label on the inside lid is in near perfect condition. See pics to make your own determination of the condition of this item Reserve is $150.00
