By bidding on our auctions you are agreeing to these terms. *A GENUINE 1800s SHAKER HAIR WOVEN UTILITARIAN SIEVE SIFTER* *NO RESERVE~A RARITY PRIMITIVE* From a private collection of early superior Americana primitives and old country items we are offering this exceptional antique Shaker made, hand woven, hair sieve re: utilitarian treen sifter. Those of you who collect Shaker wares know how very expensive Shaker items have become with prices reaching as high as the heavens. This superb early utilitarian sieve is a beautiful example of Shaker craftsmanship, created with a very fine and thin bentwood frame. Frames measures 4 1/2" tall x 12" in diameter with a 37" circumference 'around the frame', 1/4" thick. The sieve or sifter area is painstakingly hand woven from very fine hair. This sieve has a wonderful triple stripe in a mustard yellow color woven into the center of the sieve, a characteristic found on Shaker sieves, please see the photo insert, photo # 11 provided, likely the owners mark. The outer hair is wrapped with a husk, a very early characteristic. The workmanship amazes me, as all Shaker wares exhibit such intricate and fine hand craftsmanship, the workmanship is like no other. This exceptional utilitarian sieve is a 'hard to find' rarity item in the world of collecting fine Americana primitives. Destined to be, it will surely compliment any fine superior collection of treenware, primitives, early kitchen primitives, or Americana Folk Art & Shaker wares. Worthy of a supewrior Shaker collection... CONDITION: Please view the many photos provided with the ENLARGE feature, a picture says a 1000 words. Every angle of this antique hair sieve has been photographed including the bottom and interior. Overall this sieve is in lovely very presentable condition and displays magnificently. The wood frame exhibits a very aged varnish with appropriate wear showing a well seasoned patina consistant with great age. The metal stitches (they are not staples) are hand created and pinched into form w needed. The stitches exhibit great oxidation from age with dark natural shadows that would be expected from a piece with great age. I have pointed out some very fine age cracks in the frame from age. The top edge (left of the metal stitches) exhibits a sliver of wood gone that runs the top of the sieve, mentioned for 100% accuracy. I have tried not to miss anything important.
